How do I install Warranty Manager?
From Chrome Web Store (Recommended):
- Visit the Chrome Web Store listing
- Click "Add to Chrome"
- Grant notification permission when prompted
Developer Installation:
- Clone or download the repository
- Open Chrome and navigate to
chrome://extensions/ - Enable "Developer mode" (toggle in top right)
- Click "Load unpacked"
- Select the extension folder
How do I add a purchase?
Quick Add Mode (Default):
- Click the extension icon to open the popup
- Click "+ Add Purchase"
- Enter Product Name (required)
- Select Warranty Period (required, defaults to 365 days)
- Click "Save Purchase" - that's it!
Add More Details (Optional):
- Click "+ Add more details" to show additional fields
- Purchase Price (optional)
- Purchase Date (optional, defaults to today)
- Store/Retailer (optional)
- Receipt Photo (optional, max 5MB)
The extension uses smart defaults - today's date is automatically filled, and it remembers your preferred warranty period for faster entry.
How do notifications work?
Warranty Manager sends proactive browser notifications with multi-threshold alerts at 30, 14, 7, and 1 days before expiration. The extension checks daily for expiring warranties and sends notifications based on your stored data.
You can:
- Snooze reminders: Temporarily hide notifications for specific purchases (3, 7, or 14 days)
- Mark as tested: Dismiss reminders for products you've already tested
- Test notifications: Click "🔔 Test Notification" in Settings to verify alerts work
- Disable notifications: Turn off notifications at any time through Chrome's notification settings
Where is my data stored?
All your data is stored locally on your device using IndexedDB (a browser database). No data is transmitted to external servers. Your data never leaves your device.
To export your data, use the "Export" feature in the extension to download your data as JSON or CSV.
How do I export or import my data?
Export:
- Open the extension popup
- Click Settings → "📥 Export Data"
- Choose JSON or CSV format
- Your data will be downloaded to your device
Import:
- Open the extension popup
- Click Settings → "📤 Import Data"
- Select your JSON or CSV file
- Your purchases will be imported
Set Defaults:
Click Settings → "⚙️ Set Defaults" to set your preferred default warranty period.
How do I delete my data?
You can delete individual purchases from within the extension, or delete all data by:
- Uninstalling the extension, or
- Clearing your browser's IndexedDB data through Chrome settings
Is my data private?
Yes! Warranty Manager is designed with privacy as a top priority:
- All data is stored locally on your device
- No data is transmitted to external servers
- No tracking or analytics are performed
- No third-party services are used

What permissions does the extension need?
Warranty Manager requires minimal permissions:
- Notifications: To send alerts when warranties are expiring soon. Notifications are generated locally based on your stored data.
- Alarms: To schedule daily checks for expiring warranties. All processing happens locally on your device.
- Storage: To store notification tracking data locally (prevents duplicate notifications) and temporarily store filter state when clicking notifications.

How do I filter and manage my purchases?
Warranty Manager offers several ways to organize your purchases:
- Filter by Status: Click stats bar items (Active, Expiring Soon, Expired) to filter purchases
- Search: Type in the search bar to find purchases by product name or store
- View Details: Click on any purchase card to see full information
- Edit: Click "Edit" button on any purchase card
- Actions:
- "✅ Dismiss Reminder" - Mark as tested and stop notifications
- "📋 File a Claim" - Get guidance on filing warranty claims
- "⏰ Remind Me Later" - Snooze notifications for 3, 7, or 14 days
Can I use this extension offline?
Yes! Warranty Manager operates entirely offline. Once installed, you can use all features without an internet connection. The extension only needs internet access for initial installation from the Chrome Web Store.
